Issues with display devices

  • Why is picture not displayed?
    • Check that all the devices are switched on
    • Make sure that you have selected the right source for the display
    • If there is an HDMI splitter or a control panel, make sure you have selected the right source (Input)
    • Check the connections of the picture source.

  • In the Windows Project menu (WIN+P), what does “Duplicate” mean?
    • The Duplicate function copies your desktop view to the other display as such.

  • In Windows Project menu (WIN+P), what does “Extend” mean?
    • With the Extend function, you can divide your desktop to multiple displays, for example, when you wish to show another picture on the auditorium display than the one your laptop display
    • The function is especially useful if you wish to show different pictures on different displays or there are more than two displays.

Sound issues

  • Why is there no audio or it plays from a wrong device?
    • Check that all the devices are switched on
    • Check that the computer’s volume is not on mute or too low
    • If there is an HDMI splitter or a control panel, make sure you have selected the right picture/audio source (Input/Line-in)
    • Check the connections of the audio source and make sure that you have selected the correct playback on the computer.

        • If there is no volume icon in the menu bar, open System Preferences
          • Click Sound and the Output tab
          • Select the device for playback.

  • Why is the microphone not working?
    • Check that the microphone and its receiver are on
      • Check that the batteries of the microphone or receiver are not empty
    • Check from the control panel or mixer that you have the right audio source (Mic-in)
      • Make sure that the microphone is not on mute and the volume is set correctly
    • Check the microphone’s connections.

  • Why does the sound crackle or buzz or why is there audio feedback?
    • A crackle in the microphone audio can be caused by loose or faulty connections or cables either in the microphone or the speakers
      • Check the microphone’s connections and contact Helpdesk if necessary
      • Check that the microphone’s volume is not too high
    • A buzz in the microphone can be caused by high amplification
      • You can ask the presenter to hold the microphone closer so that the amplification can be lowered
    • If there is an audio feedback
      • Direct the microphone away from the speakers
      • Check that the microphone is not too close to the speakers
      • Check that there are no other active microphones in the room (e.g. laptop in online meetings)
      • You can ask the presenter to hold the microphone closer so that the amplification can be lowered.
